FAQ

What is Coeliac Disease?

Coeliac Disease is a genetically based sensitivity to gluten. This sensitivity to gluten leads to the flattening of the villi in the small intestine. Villi are finger-like projections that are responsible for absorbing nutrients. People with undiagnosed coeliac disease have damaged villi and therefore fail to digest all the nutrients they need. Once diagnosis has been made and the diet adhered to, the villi should return to normal.

What are the symptoms of Coeliac Disease?

The symptoms of Coeliac Disease vary greatly from person to person. This means people tend to be misdiagnosed. The symptoms can present themselves as vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, weight loss, iron deficiency, anaemia, severe fatigue, skin rashes such as Dermatitis Herpetiformis, miscarriages and infertility or no symptoms at all.

If Coeliac Disease remains undiagnosed or the person continues to eat gluten, there is an increased risk of developing serious health issues such as Osteoporosis and Lymphoma.

What is the Treatment for Coeliac Disease?

Coeliac Disease cannot be cured with a tablet. Those diagnosed with the disease are required to maintain a strict gluten free diet forever. If you are exposed to gluten the small intestines will continue to be damaged, even if you don’t experience any symptoms.

Those with Coeliac Disease must be cautious and responsible with their eating and need to make certain that people around them are educated and sensitive to their dietary needs.

What is Gluten?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, oats, barley and triticale.

A Product does not state its Gluten Free.
How do I know its okay for me?

Wheat Free Provider has endeavoured to take the guesswork out of purchasing gluten free food, so we’ve enlisted the help of a dietician. She double checks any foods that are gluten free but don’t have their product specially marked.

As with all products it is recommended that you read all ingredients before consuming them

I feel better eating gluten free food than I do eating food containing wheat. Does that mean I have Coeliac Disease?

We believe a balanced and nutritious diet is important for your health. It is not advisable to remove gluten from your diet without the assistance of a doctor or dietician. If you feel you are having difficulty digesting gluten, don’t go on suffering, see your doctor and ask to be tested.

I don’t know if Wheat Free Provider can deliver to my town. How do I find out?

Drop us an email and we can quickly work out if we can deliver to your door or, alternatively we can let you know where your depot is.

Why did my last order take 2 days to get to me,
and this one 4 days?

Wheat Free Provider aims to provide you with the freshest and highest quality gluten free foods. Some products on occasion may take longer for us to get, for instance bread. We don’t want to sell you bread that was 3 days old when we got it, so, we’ll wait for the next round of baking, pick it up straight away and then send it off to you.
